And being a bill that had other functions in it, the senators that wanted those other parts to pass could hold their nose and let some things dealing with immigration they would normally adamantly oppose get in the final bill.
Like McConnell said, there were concessions in the bill, on both sides of all the issues, that will not be repeated in any future bill dealing only with immigration.
Fact remains Trump didn’t want anything done about the border and immigration and very few Republican senators were willing to vote against him. | |
