Faunsdale, AL | David, you don’t like the way things are handled at the border but you also don’t want to do anything to fix it. What’s your solution that doesn’t cost money?
You and I don’t get to solve the problems, instead we elect representatives, senators and the president and they’re supposed to work to solve things to the best of their ability.
When a part of the government decides they don’t have to contribute to governing because they need a campaign issue, stuff starts to go wrong or in this case continues to go wrong.
Imagine if the Senate were to say, we don’t like those congressmen over there on the other side of the Capitol so we’re not going to take up any bill they send over. After a few months, when government ground to a halt, we would say throw them all out! One party doing the same thing shouldn’t be any different .
If the president decided to shut down government and veto every bill, congress can override that. On the other hand, one party in one chamber of Congress has a majority, can actually shut down government and there’s no way around it. I guess the founders of this country figured there would never be enough zealots that were committed to any cause that they would be willing to forget their obligation to serve the people and end our democracy. | |
