As for killing the bill, I haven’t heard anyone that keeps up with politics that doesn’t attribute the failure of that bill to Trump. You would be the first.
It was drafted by a bipartisan committee in Congress. That doesn’t mean that in normal times ( ie in the past) it wouldn’t get debated and renegotiated between the house and Senate, but given how serious an issue the border is, a bill would have emerged and been signed into law. Not this time……….Yeah, have to preserve the status quo so it’s a campaign issue.
So FEMA money (which was allocated by congress for that purpose) is used to keep the detention and adjudication of migrants’ asylum claims process from turning into a worse cess pit than it already is.
Much better to pass a law to fix the problem ……..oh…….wait……. Have to campaign on the status quo first. | |
