Earlville, NY | Our old farmhouse has an odd attached garage, it's big but only room for one car. Most of it is used for storage and is out of site.
We have had an occasional dead mouse in the basement, garage etc. Five days ago smelled something nasty, definitely something dead. Thought a mouse or chipmunk got in the big garbage can in garage, emptied it out, nothing there. Every day was getting worse, seemed like it was in house, or on porch, or in garage. Finally I went into garage storage area with a flashlight... there was a dead freaking DEER in there! Not an adult, but the size of a big dog easily. Was already badly decomposed and maggot infested. Must have been hit on road in front of house and crawled back there. Just disgusting. Got it out today, with some twine and a snow shovel. Sprinkled lime all over to dry it out hopefully and then clean it fully. Almost unbearable stench. Country living, always interesting. | |
