Western Oregon
I have all my finger tips on left hand but index finger is missing both joints and long fingers is missing middle one. Long fingers' end joint still moves a little but I have no control as tendon has stuck to the artificial sheath. Both index and long fingers had artificial tendons and sheaths after 3 surgeries, zig zagged the full length of the inside of both fingers to release them. I have 1 tendon in each of those and the ring finger but ring finger has both joints and they work OK. I have lots of ghost pain but what bothers most is since the fingers are short, I have no idea where the fingertip is. I also have a huge hang nail since on my index finger since they put a pin under my fingernail to hold the fingertip joint after removal. I have good feeling in index finger but not so much on index finger side of long the finger. Doctors wanted to remove index finger and put 2 artificial joints in long fingers. I said no at 26, 16 surgeries and more than 5 years, they hadn't gotten anything to work and I had gotten to where I could work with what I had. I could always have more work done later. I was 19 when I slipped on a metal roof. I stepped over on the shady side and feet slipped so fast on the frosty tin (that I was not aware of). I grabbed for a nailing strip but it was jerked out of my hand, my hand slid right down the edge of the sheet. The doctor set the curve of the fingers so my finger will touch my thumb tip but I could hold a pop can, over the year the tendons have shrunk so that when the can is empty it will no longer fall out....James
