Pittsburg, Kansas | Wife and I retired and started drawing social security at about 65 (give or take a month or two).
One thing I wish we had of done differently is to let her start drawing at 65 and me wait till I was 70. You only get so much between the two of you anyway, and that would have let us draw a smaller check on only hers while mine payment amount would have grown by waiting till 70.
It would make a big difference if the wife has drawn a salary or not. In my case she always did draw a salary from the corp she headed as well as a job before we married.
Once you set up an account on line with social security I think you can go and figure out about what your payments would be.
Our thinking was we wanted the money while we were still healthy enough to travel. And travel we have done and do. But I didn't think through how it would have worked out her drawing at 65 and me waiting till I was 70.
Just something to consider. |
