Highland Center, in Southeast Iowa | What a beautiful church! Thanks for sharing that. Following are a few shots we took in Leicestershire in 2015. The church is where my DH's grandfather and family attended, prior to emigrating to the US in 1909. He was a blacksmith and farrier in the village. The change you can see in the stone at the side of the church is the old rubble rock original structure, joined to the 'new' Victorian addition. The church is inactive now, there are services held there once a month and a community committee takes care of upkeep and maintenance. A lady who lives across the street is the church historian, and has a degree in archeology, and was fascinating to visit with. There have been Roman coins found at the church grounds and the historian believes that it's been a place of worship since early Roman times, based on her studies and the things that have been found there. Behind the church in the back of the grave yard is a memorial to the crew of an American B-17 bomber crew that crashed at the edge of the village.
