What is their current wage?
Around $39/hr is an average reference point for typical experienced pay. New hires start under $20/hr. Top pay crane operators can make up to around $50/hr. This current wage is the result of incremental raises since 2012, about $0.50/hr per year.
Negotiations start out wanting the $39/hr to become $55/r. Crane operators would be $66/hr. Keep in mind some of these guys live in very expensive metro areas. It’s a decent wage in low cost of living areas around the Gulf, okay but not great in places like NYC or New Jersey.
The ILWU on the west coast make way more money, and skews the general public perception a bit.
