Photo you have suggests marble to me. Lots of drug store counter tops were made from it back “in-the day”. Soda fountains all sported marble counters. Cannot discern any grain or pattern in your pic which would be more indicative of marble. Most slate I have seen is charcoal to blackish with a rough surface.
