Any binding during telescoping is a bad deal! I’ve seen that wreck tractor pto shaft bearings and worse. Lots of times the tubing is pretty cheap and most of it these days is simply a slip fit onto the yokes on each end and then pinned in place with a roll pin.
Older style was always welded which is more technically demanding to replace.
