I think the plumber is correct, it may not resolve your problem.
Are you running the sprinklers in Series? A host from the spigot to the first sprinkler, then a hose from the 1st sprinkler to the 2nd and so on? If so, running a larger line to the source will make little to no difference because the bottleneck is at the 1st sprinkler.
IF you have a multi-tap connector at the spigot and running individual hoses to each spigot then Yes, making the supply line larger would help.
There is a functional relationship between pressure and flow (pipe size) but there is always going to be a point of diminishing return with pressure. 80psi is high for residential supply.
