Subject: RE: Another take on the perpetual solar debate

SE Indiana
I have read many of the responses to this post and would like to share a few thoughts. First the level of disdain is incredible.
Second I see a little of each argument.
Now let’s look at why the best farm land is chosen for commercial development of solar as well as many other things. I believe the number one reason is that it is usually available in large fairly flat tracts. It is often located near infrastructure. And it is less expensive than alternatives. Just a few of the reasons.

Now why not to use these acres. They are often far from the end users, and will require a major upgrade to transmission lines and equipment. These potentially permanently damage the land when installing and when removing these operations. These installations also stand to damage many agricultural support businesses. And the most important one to me, it removes from production the one thing most every farm and farmer needs, land. This will make it even harder for our next generation to join the industry.

I believe we all need to step back and look at the other sides points. If you can’t make the argument for the other side you probably haven’t thought it through. The big question is where you put your value. For me it’s about helping the next generation get a start in agriculture, about how these affect those around me, and the community. My answer is no to commercial solar, but I don’t hold it against those that have a different answer.
