Yes, a lot of the whole thing smells like a scam, and a lot of it is. No doubt there is incredible power available when one $100 panel can put out more power all day long than I could for ten minutes. And the big guy needs his cut as always.

Crop production seems like the worst possible application for solar farms. NY state pasture seems almost as bad. Some sandy grazing ground could increase production with shade. Some specialty crops need shade, ginseng is the most obvious, but that's not a 50 year crop, it's 3-5 years and done forever traditionally.
