East TN | Just to keep it short and sweet: due to some unfortunate circumstances I happened to inherit the family farm a lot earlier in life than anyone had intended. I’ve been leasing it out to a neighbor but due to him having health issues he is stepping back on as much work as he normally does.
So, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting into it, but I’m still pretty young and honestly didn’t even realize what I didn’t know. Traditionally, it’s been a beef cattle farm that produced corn (for the cattle) hay and a little bit of tobacco. I certainly don’t want any part of tobacco, but the idea of growing hay and raising cattle doesn’t sound half bad. This would only be a hobby. I’m well aware farming on small parcel of land isn’t profitable and I have a primary source of income unrelated to the farm.
I don’t want to make this post long and boring, just wanted to introduce myself. Looking for any advice from the guys out there that actually know what they’re doing. I’m very much still a kid in your eyes and I’m fine with that. If I say something wrong, feel free to chew me out. I can take it and you gotta learn somehow.
Thanks, Jack | |
