EC SD | Agree that predators are needed and are helpful to keep populations of other animals in check. We used to have thousands of rabbits and pheasants for instance. When the coyote population exploded, the rabbits and pheasants were gone for about a decade. Now we still have some coyotes around, more like historical normal levels. We also have some rabbits and pheasants again. The intensive coyote hunting is not continuing, and no longer necessary, but my neighbor did take out around 500 coyotes within a few square miles area, to get back to this balanced state. He also hunts raccoons with his dogs, and has brought that population down to a reasonable level again. | |
