We made a ton of sales via farm shows with the shortline company I was with back in the 90s. Of course this could have changed since, with the interweb and all.
I have bought shortline stuff at farm shows several times. Often it is because I was not aware that such an item existed, or perhaps I was curious about one and wouldn't have been able to see it firsthand otherwise. Farm show specials didn't hurt either.
That said I have never made a major purchase at a farm show. At most, I talked to a salesman about inventory at a lot but never made a purchase. Of course I am a STO who doesn't buy major equipment new, but it would seem to me that something like a tractor or combine isn't something you would buy on a whim at a show. At most, the salesman might tell you there will be one at the show and you can check it out, but IMO that would be something a customer was already interested in, not something they walk up to and buy. |
