I have a few hives. Varroa and lack of winter food are the biggest challenges I see. There are other challenges, these are the greatest that I have experienced. I have sprayed insecticide right next to the hives with no ill effect. Varroa is fairly easily managed, but you have to stay on top of it. This year I have lost quite a few queens and I believe that they were simply not mated well.
