30 years ago I used to see lots of 10' combines from the 60's out doing 5 - 10 acres of feed grain. When those machines wore out or their owners did, that ended that family's combine ownership. Around the same time everyone said combines got too big for the small farmer, now all the small farmers have an old maximizer or axial flow, and they need it because to make ends meet they have other things occupying their time. Guy with 500 acres used to take 2 weeks to harvest with a 550 massey now get the job done in after supper and on weekends with his 9650. | |
