Holly Hill, SC | Today decided to replace some bushings on the shaker system on my Case 5088 combine. Ran into more trouble than it should be. Right side of machine behind the large drive pulley we removed the pitman arm without too much difficulty but the next arm that pivots on the greaseable support pin was a bear. The pivot pin will not come out of the arm because it is pressed in. The shaft and arm assembly is too long to just remove from the cast steel frame before hitting the side of the clean grain elevator. So, remove the cast frame and arm as an assembly, still not enough room to force it out. Removed two braces on the elevator and locking collar on the clean grain auger and used two logging wedges and a block of wood to move the elevator out 1/4". Couple hits with a sledge hammer and the assembly was out. Why did this have too be so hard? Why not a different design, more space or even a bolted on plate on the inside of the elevator that can easily be removed?
