Neighbor was thinking of trading in 110 hp jd with loader, said 4 years old should only have 1200 hours ,, value started at 80 grand,, took of 11$ an hour off after every hour over 1200 hours, 45 grand less ,, trade value 35k,new one 156 k,, he declined the deal,, seems they have it figured out at United Ag and turf ,,

Are they comparable tractors? Or is he trading a 5200hr mid spec for a new high spec? If it's not like for like, then that's some of the spread.

I never knew any formula, you look around and see what kind of value people are asking, and then work backwards to get the difference for the new one. If there aren't any comparable units selling at the moment, then you take your best shot at what you think you can sell the thing for. 4 years old and 5200 hours will scare a lot of folks away if they aren't open minded, so you need to figure that in.

I do agree though, their evaluation and valuation seems low though.
