I will agree, I believe the problem is mental health and bullying, thats the root cause. But that problem is going to be nearly impossible to solve as were not the only country in the world with mental health issues...that being said, we are the only country with a mass shooting problem. So the easy way to solve the problem as other countries have is by regulating the guns.
Now I preface this by saying I'm a huge gun lover, love collecting, and am in the process of getting my FFL. I think an easy solution is to put AR platform guns into the same category as class 3 weapons such as SBRs, suppressors, or machine guns. Yes, you can still legally own all of those including fully automatic machine guns under the NFA. It just requires a more strict background check, fingerprinting, and a waiting period. Any responsible gun owner should have zero problems with this and it will also keep people who are struggling with mental health from being able to buy an AR or make any rash quick desicions. Yup. Agree. Mentioned this the other day. Not a popular opinion among NAT folks. We’ve come to a point where restrictions are needed for the overall good of society. Pesticides/herbicides widely used today are restricted use. Don’t hear much screaming and knashing of the teeth over that. Fully understand all the crazies out there. Gonna be a long time to make much of a dent in those numbers. It simply needs be a much higher level of difficulty for these kids to get their hands on a rapid fire weapon of any type. The foolish arguments the other day that they just will resort to non semi auto guns., knives, screwdrivers even. Well if that’s what they choose to do, an armed resource officer or a teacher with a 9mm in their desk can deal with that without getting cut down themselves trying to protect the students. I personally have no issue with having to qualify at a high level of scrutiny to possess semi auto weapons. No different than what I had to do to purchase restricted use pesticides/herbicides when I was farming. Minor inconvenience. The status quo will continue to see our kids and grandkids senselessly murdered. That much is for certain.
