We had multiple Black Snakes in the basement of our old farmhouse/ Granddaughter loved to "go snake hunting"  biggest we caught was 6-7', most we caught in 1 day was 5.  Never had a mouse in the house.
Wife had a spray (ask your wife what that is) arraignment above the backdoor, she went in 1st, I saw one as I was going in, I didn't say anything , slipped back out and took it away. Didn't tell her until a week or so later - the spray came down instantly.  LOL

BTW there is snake repellent, mixed results, but made wife feel better.
