Subject: RE: Please tell me why

I have thought very differently about the whole carbon credit thing after hearing a speech where it was mentioned that maybe the poorer people could forgo their trip somewhere and sell their credits to those with more financial means so that they could go on more trips than their own personal carbon allowances would allow.

I had never really paid much attention to the carbon trading idea before I heard that speech. After hearing that I realized that once implemented and everyone gets their carbon “allowance” the people at the top, like that speaker who is pushing for personal carbon credit allowance, would not have to abide by their own personal carbon allowance as they are in the financial position to maintain their lifestyle. It is easy to for a person to push a concept if it doesn’t really affect them anyways.

After thinking about it i think the quickest way to entirely sink the carbon allowance concept is to not allow it to be traded. If a personal limit is to be set it should apply equally to every person. We are told we all need to do our part by the same people who are designing the system so that they don’t have to do their part. If we insist that we are all equal, as is so often touted, then they need to meet their personal limits just like the rest of us. The majority of the people pushing for personal carbon use limits would quickly change their minds if they were forced to also abide by the limits they want to set. Eliminating carbon trading would drastically change their desire to reduce carbon usage.

I know it isn’t entirely in line with the OP’s post but it is somewhat related. Some can buy their way out, some can’t.
