thank you all for the replies. i wonder if "test weight" should be renamed to "kernel density" to take away confusion. because to the uninitiated its easy to interchange with "kernel weight" or assume that test weight has to have an effect on kernel weight. the old yield check of 17`-5" of 30" rows, count ears, count average kernels on a few ears and if its good corn divide by 90,000, higher if below average, it isnt one`s first thought that test weight wouldnt be a factor on the kernel weight. it does make sense now.
