basically isnt the test weight debates really about adjusting yield that the usda and crop tours say that`s out there? pro farmer measures ear length, usda and others weigh ears. but really no one knows for sure until you look at your settlement sheet. if its a typical year, they can estimate pretty close, with the asterisk of how it finishes. arguments come close to fisticuffs if the national yield will be 183 or a controversial "181" imo it cant be guessed that close, seed dealer will tell you that there`s a phantom loss of a couple bushel if you harvest too dry.

but all the shelling, weighing pre-black layer ears off of random 17`-5" of 30" rows could effect final test weight by how it finishes. the lighter the test weight, the fewer 56lbs bushels out there.
