West Central IA | Obviously you are a globalist with your response. Until the 1960's we protected our manufacturing base for obvious reasons. We had just been in 2 major wars and at least one smaller one. We are not currently doing an even honest job of protecting our manufacturing base. The problem with globalism is there is always someone out there who will sell an item cheaper than anyone else. That is exactly what is going on now. Most of our corps have moved the manufacturing overseas and then import the finished product or components of the finished product with much lower labor rates than if manufactured here. There used to be tariffs in place to "adjust" the price of the cheap imported products to be the same as the US built products. This protected the workers in this country who are also the buyers of the products manufactured here or overseas. The manufactures never talk about how the workers in this country are also buyers, just that labor is an expense. Our government has allowed this to happen and 1st we lost the tool manufacturing to foreigners, the tooling used in manufacturing is what I am talking about. Now we are losing the manufacturing of the products as well. You cannot allow a corporation to manufacture in the cheap labor country and sell into the high labor cost supported country forever. Eventually the high labor country will be broke and the corporations will have moved onto the next victim. You need to educate yourself before you go and tell us all how great globalism is before we are all standing in the breadline. | |
