Nw Iowa | I agree Expensive, if your son is hurt, doesn’t want to get hurt again and a bit scared he is going to get hurt. I think size can be overcome some, but not completely if you like contact and don’t mind getting hit., but if somebody is on the defensive about being hit they are probably going to get hurt again. And if he 40# lighter and scared he is going to get hurt. I have two grandsons coming up ,love football, 6 &8, both already playing organized flag football, 1 is just like your son , finely built, super fast, , he is already practicing cross country at 8 with older kids and loves it, and another 6, very well built and and alittle bigger for his age and loves football. Tackle will be interesting next step for both if they choose it and some difficult parenting choices ahead but letting a kid out at beginning of the season if he is hurt and especially if it affects things they could really be good at is just good common sense. There are awful lot of people out there with high school injuries that plague them for their whole life. Fortunately for me as I was small, unfortunately I thought at the time, my dad needed my butt sitting in a tractor or combine all fall because we had more work than we could do, and I have enough aches and pains of 50 years of farming, I didn’t need some football injuries on top of that. | |
