North Central Indiana
We’ve had 1.3” since July 15th right through our neck of the woods. 130 acres of 104 day corn will be harvested next week. Not pretty, that’ll be the earliest harvested corn ever on our farm by 13 days. The caveat with ever is as far back as my grandpa can remember but dad and an uncle started with him in the 70s and it’s the earliest they’ve harvested corn at least. Hand shelled a bunch of 109 day corn on Wednesday, that tested just a fuzz over 27. Add about 2.5% moisture when we hand shell so 29.5 is our assumption. Expecting to wait on that until the 23rd and we’ll be off to the races from there. Corn will still be alright. More variation than we expected in the middle to late July but some spots are going to be massive and some are going to be ugly. Forecasting about our 7 year rolling average for corn this year. Beans is the sad story, but again not a disaster just a stinger for the current market and the “what could have been” mindset from July. We did walk a 60 acre field on Tuesday that won’t break 20. That specific variety just did not handle the weather pattern well at all. But the rest of the beans will vary like the corn, some real nice spots and some real stinkers. We’re looking for beans about 10% under our 7 year rolling average. But as always, you never know for sure until the combines roll
