The most important thing is to invest it somewhere. Research is good, unless you get into too much and end up sitting out instead of investing.

I started at Edward Jones. It's probably the easiest, but has more fees so possibly less in your pocket in the end. You sit there and they ask your retirement goals, amounts, income, risk level etc. They help pick out funds.

If you think you can handle it, Fidelity or Vanguard are lower fee places, but you do the work. It's relatively easy, but nobody to blame but yourself. I have a handful of funds between the 2 of them. The problem is that between all of them,they have a lot of the same stocks. I need to diversify some, but that takes more research. Back when I was young and broke, I read a lot and researched a lot. Now I'm older and have less time, and really lost the desire/care, so I doubt that will happen. I'm going to meet with EDJ and go over things this winter and try to not be so heavily weighted in stocks like Nividia (even though they have helped me a ton).
