Your correct. If test weight correlated to yield it would be quite simple to just select high test weight corn hybrids. I’ve been told that test weight is quite easy to breed for but that it has little value when selecting for high yielding hybrids.
exactly, but test weight was the one thing pioneer was good at so they pushed test weight and the flock drank the kool-aid.
Edit: and yes I have bins and appreciate what test weight does to storage capacity.....but I can't sell test weight so yield trumps test weight.
