I know very little about corporate side of the grain trade but I assumed majority of companies cover their butts on the various trading boards.
Ones that want to stay in business do...Even b ig guys like ADM will often have a little more hedged than what they have bought...None should be long futures
Money made on basis/storage ...spring here Soybeans will be worth 50 cents + - a bu. more out of farm bin direct ship than elevator...and elevator also collects storage fees
Ethanol & ADM, Cargill will buy direct from farmers |
No storing at elevator
