It is basically a sales tax to be paid by the consumer of said product. It doesn’t affect the selling country whatsoever and they don’t pay anything to anyone. It basically reduces consumption of products from said country once the importing country’s consumer figures out it costs more to buy. Once that happens, the exporting country will make it worse by not purchasing from the country who put the tariff on to start with.
Only the taxing authority wins until people quit buying and then everyone loses. Tariffs are hidden tax, it doesn’t get shown on the price tag or receipts. If you don’t think they are hidden, show me how much extra you paid for stuff in the last year. I have no idea what my tariff bill was last year… | |
