I was always told to store the grease tubes with the "pop top" down so you don't have an air bubble at the top when you load it. I leave the tube loose till it primes then tighten it. Sometimes I need to put some pressure on the plunger while pumping to get it to prime. Cold weather makes priming a bit more challenging as the grease is stiffer.
