nw NC | Some years ago when we were in Minnesota (my wife's home state), we stopped at a farmer's market in North Branch, Minn. There were fresh watermelons for sale there. I inquired of the seller as to where the melons were grown. He said "Down south". I, being from North Carolina and accustomed to knowing that watermelons available in North Carolina are grown there or shipped northward from Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, named those states. The man said , " No , Indiana". To me, Indiana is " up north". But I guess it is relevant to where one is standing at the moment as to where " Down south" is. If you are in Minnesota, Indiana would be "down south " ! | |
