X2 lots of guys have went to rye as it is cheaper to plant and seems to have a bigger market locally ie set your price for the cover crop guys.


This. Dad doing this for years now. Has the grain and straw sold at planting. Makes the same as beans/corn. Applies zero herbicide as it grows so fast and tall it shades out virtually everything.

Following beans and corn there will soak up some leftover N and then 60N as soon as possible in spring. It’s a pretty cheap crop to grow and demand has been good.

I remember wheat as a kid, but he stopped that when corn and beans were more profitable.
