Wisconsin | I took my kids on a driving tour of Cherokee Valley WI which was a 19th century free black settlement and one of the sites was a historic cemetery, one of the graves was an almost 18 year old female, and the one next to it was an infant that died the same day, might have been February 1860's. I'd suggest that it was more common that a mother or child didn't get enough raw milk, or firewood. Other possibilities are moving between housing so drinking different milk and water, or was just getting established and bought a sick cow. | |
