I'm not much of a two-banger enthusiast, at least from the aspect of having to make a living with them.


My take on it -- The two cylinder was an absolutely brilliant piece of engineering that peaked with the introduction of the A and B models. For a tractor that can pull a plow, operate a mounted cultivator, and run a belt, you just couldn't wish for a simpler better tractor for the task.

But as technology advanced, and Deere started adding more speeds, hydraulics, live pto, and a 3-point hitch, the transverse two-cylinder design lost its inherent advantages to longitudinal tractor designs.
