Pretty dramatic scenario. How does the rental ground change hands if there's an existing lease?
Fsrmer just walks away?
Most people in my area do not have long term leases. Most are year to year or two years max. Farmers that locked in long term leases the last time corn got to $8 in 2012 got their butts handed to them. The only way guys locked into long term lease (3-5 years) around here is if the lease was stupid cheap or it was something other than a straight cash lease. People from the traditional “grain belt” wouldn’t understand what it is like to farm in the fringe areas. Its a totally different ball game. |
