Subject: RE: Tractor Pulling Has Lost Another Legend

Malta, Illinois
Yes that is one of them. They had two. Fred's name might have been on the other one I don't remember. Bob and Fred were usually the drivers I think. The Bends, Harold Boston, Dave and Rich Larson and a handful of other people were all involved including Fred. Yes they built them with the rear end of a UB with the differential turned around because the Allison turned the the opposite direction of the regular engine. The front end is supposed to resemble the flat front of a UB Special but I believe you are correct that is is from a G. Google Allison Team Bob Bend or Fred Mende and you will find a ton of information about how those tractors were put together and who all was involved. Fred was a track official with the NTPA up until about ten years ago and his wife Wilma was a clerk or secretary for NTPA. They traveled all over the place. They didn't have any children and the tractor pulling community was like family to him.
