Reality speaks - 8/29/2024 20:04 those that survive came into this down turn with working capital and did not spend all of it on new paint just to avoid paying some income taxes, They have their costs under control Operating rate under 75% and they did not expand their term debt payments in 2022-2023 thinking that $6/bu corn was here to stay.

I can't disagree with a considerable amount of your comment.   But....  you paint a broad brush.   Some people didn't have "better than expected" to bushel their way through the doldrums of 2015-2019.   Some of them were just trying to heal from that when commodity prices got better, AND didn't have "better than expected" 7 dollar corn.   And weren't buying yards full of "new paint" for Section 179.   And weren't incurring extravagant living expenses, sorry- I barbecued a whole chicken for dinner tonight, plus sweet corn and veggies from the garden, and drove home in a 2009 model year vehicle with 300,000 miles on the clock.

I'm not claiming Great Depression sort of stuff, but we grow cook can freeze fix wrench way more than the average 21st century American and none of that is enough to get ahead of the game in the post-COVID era.
