Subject: Lost a great friend to diabetes

He had endured a head injury within the past ten years and never was quite the same after that. Some people got offended by his personality changes and quit coming to his store. When he got a little quirky or snippety with me, I just laughed and didn't take any of it personally. The man had a kind heart and would help those truly in need. Wish I had a tenth of his salesmanship abilities. The head injury didn't diminish his salesmanship. He went right on buying in bulk to fill his store with interesting items.

Tried calling his phone multiple times this morning and would only get voicemail. Usually he would call me back within a couple hours or a day at the very latest if he was busy. I waited in anticipation to hear from him. Nothing. So, I tried calling one more time and got a surprise when his wife answered. When I asked if Mel was there she slowly responded with an elongated, "Noooooooo". She proceeded to ask if anyone had told me. I told her no I hadn't heard anything. She explained how diabetes took its toll on his heart and body. Gulp.

Knew it was coming but had hoped life for him would last a while longer. That guy was one heck of a salesman and friend to many. He used to have warehouses full of a wide array of things until his health forced downsizing. Someone from Canada would make a trip down to purchase a trailer load of Mobil synthetic oil from him.
