I just did a search about the Italian mafia adulterating olive oil as I had not heard about that. Looks like it was reported back in 2016-17. Seems like the biggest problem was them adding a lesser quality olive oil and labeling it as extra virgin olive oil. But they were adding in other oils in some instances too. That was reported eight years ago, but perhaps is still an issue. If you were concerned about this, then look at the country of origin on the label- Greece, Spain, even Texas and California also produce olive oil.
Olive oil is a great mono-unsaturated oil to use, so I wouldn't give it up for the reason of the Italian mafia. I would just be more discerning about the country it originated from. The extra virgin olive oil I bought in Greece was very good, but was used up long ago.
