Southeast Colorado | It is a flat V-blade mounted to a frame, or a group of them bolted side by side. Each blade is 5 to 7 feet wide. We run one that is seven 6 foot blades.........and with the overlap takes about a 40 foot pass. Lots of them running in the area now that are over 60 feet wide though.
They undercut the weeds or whatever is growing on the surface and leave the residue standing. It's a pretty good concept............but if you happen to let any of your bindweed go to seed before making the pass........they really drag the seed around and spread it through the field. Back in the old days with disc or moldboard plows the dirt was just cut and turned over right beside where it was. Less spreading of noxious weeds occurred back then. But more blowing dirt and dust in this dry climate occurred back then as well.
