I was in Greece last summer and they were complaining that the Italians were buying their olive oil (which they thought was of a higher quality) and then labeling it for sale as Italian olive oil. I guess it's not above the mafia to mix oils and claim it for something else. But I wouldn't think that there is much canola in Italy? I don't know anything about that. But, for the most of us, if it labeled as olive oil, it is supposed to be olive oil. I suppose there are different rules for the mafia.
