You are correct sir! It would be way easier to make up an approximate yield number on a national level than on smaller level. Like county for example. Over time we do have a decent idea of how much total corn we've been chewing through each year in general. National yield is just a number they plug in to use for all future calculations. Then it gets changed as needed. We dont need the government announcing in the regular what that number will be when they have no method for even trying to be accurate. They just use historical and assume. Producers would be better off letting evrybody who has corn and everybody who needs corn to be the players determining how much supply there actually is coming. We dont need the USDA involving itself in that process. It has essentially become gamblers (specs) betting on USDA numbers. It would be a more honest market if they just reported acres the minute they have that information, then let the farmers adjust their acres to keep balance in the markets.
