southern MN | Planted my last Wheat in the 90s when the protien grading started. In our too wet and often too hot at the wrong time climate getting quality wheat that yields is just a difficult task.
And I swath, I still grow a little oats. So could manage the weeds and moisture a bit better.
It’s too bad, I wish we could have 3 different crops here, just corn and beans gets boring and not the best rotation. When actually even beans don’t always do well, we typically grow 2/3 corn here. That’s changing now too with the corn diseases and insects finally catching up with those practices.
This spring when it was so dry and warm in February I kicked the dirt around and said wow, this could sure be a good year for small grains! And thrn - the rain came. And never left. Wasn’t even a good year for corn….
