Bought a strip till bar last summer and used last fall on bean ground going into corn. Have some corn on corn ground planned for this upcoming growing season and wondering about the dos and don'ts of strip tilling corn on corn. have a chopping head and typically use NH3 as a nitrogen source. Wanting to save my self some headaches if anyone has any advice.

We made alot of mistakes - thinking they weren't at the time. We used to run a Drago and took the choppers off because of the advice here, and logically, it would be easier to move a few large chunks than thousands of smaller ones. And while that maybe the case, what really matters is how your corn emerges next spring. NAT was wrong, and so was I. Without a doubt here, the data says that you will want to process your corn stalks as best you can prior to strip tilling. Hands down, no question. The larger pieces will have a tendency to blow back in behind your planter pass in the spring( if you were able to move them out of the way in the first place) and that impacts your emergence. And ultimately that determines where you capped yield and where you start hitting the minus button from. Calmers are now our rolls of choice. Others may work better, but I can say for sure, the smaller the particle size, the better....here.

Take care
