Malta, Illinois | I don't think you quite understand how a yield monitor works. While in some respects it is a volume measurement it also factors in the weight or force by which that volume strikes the face plate. If properly calibrated a yield monitor will do a very good job of giving yield in corns that have a test weight within about three or four pounds. If there is a variance of more than that recalibration is probably going to be necessary. Nobody is talking about combines with load cells under the hopper. Yield monitors calculate weight based off of the amount of flow against the sensor and the force with which it strikes that sensor. Yes there are systems out there that do have load cells under the hopper but I don't believe that is what was being discussed in this thread. | |
