NWMO | I’m by no means saying he isn’t, I’m just saying that many modern hybrids don’t dent the way they used to. A better question would be, what stage is this corn really in? If it’s already pulling the milk line out of it then he’s not going to lose 40%. If it’s in the late dough/early dent stage, then yes, he has a lot of yield on the table in regards to kernel size and weight.
That being said, it’s a bad deal when the plants start giving up early. We have had it happen the past 2 years where the ears, especially on the lighter ground, start breaking over in late August. Corn still made in excess of 200 bu/ac. Don’t give up hope yet, a rain can still help on a lot of it prior to full plant shutdown! | |
