mercer county, il
I wouldn’t say they’re inaccurate as much as understanding the limitations they have. Even with modern systems, when you’re measuring volume, but paid on weight, there’s gonna be some discrepancies.

Most yield monitors measure volume. A given volume of 53 lb corn is decidedly less pay weight than 60 lb corn. Like 11% and change. Couple that with lighter corn generally testing a bit dryer which also adds error, even if you round it down to say 7% difference, that’s a 14bu difference on 200 bu corn. So if the becks is making 210 corrected to dry bu, and the pioneer is making 200 (measuring volume) but I end up with more total pounds of dry corn with the pioneer, I’d say pioneer won.

For me, becks corn was generally markedly lighter, and usually just a bit wetter in the same maturity. And now I’m gonna fire off the test weight argument.
